POET and Tallgrass Partner on Carbon Capture Project to benefit Nebraska’s Bioeconomy

On Thursday, a local biofuel producer teamed up with a major infrastructure company to announce a new collaboration focused on a carbon capture project.

POET’s bioprocessing facility in Fairmont, Nebraska, will connect to the Tallgrass Trailblazer pipeline, designed to capture bioCO2, which will then be transported for permanent underground storage in Wyoming.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of the Tallgrass Trailblazer project,” said Jeff Broin, Founder and CEO of POET. “Carbon capture presents a tremendous opportunity to generate significant value for both farmers and bioethanol producers, while also strengthening rural communities in Nebraska and the broader Midwest. We’re confident that this initiative, along with other carbon capture projects, will create even more prospects for agriculture in the future.”

Tallgrass plans to repurpose an existing natural gas pipeline, which has been operational for over ten years, to reduce the need for new pipeline infrastructure. The project is expected to begin operations later this year.

“We’re thrilled to be working alongside POET in Nebraska,” said Alison Nelson, Segment President of CO2 Business Development and Origination at Tallgrass. “This collaboration will have a positive impact on the communities in Nebraska and add further value to the state’s bioeconomy.”

The initiative is anticipated to provide benefits not only to the farmers supplying the POET facility but also to the landowners and local communities hosting the infrastructure.
