Japanese engineering firm Taihei Dengyo Kaisha Ltd (TYO:1968) has approved plans to develop a nearly 2-megawatt (MW) biomass-fired power plant in Murakami City, located in Niigata Prefecture. The facility will be operated by the company’s wholly owned subsidiary, Murakami Green Power LLC.
Renewable Energy and Decarbonisation Goals
The plant will utilize woody biomass as its primary fuel source, aligning with Japan’s national strategy to promote renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions. Once operational, the facility is expected to generate approximately 13,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity annually, enhancing the region’s green energy capacity.
Timeline and Investment
Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2026, with commissioning planned by the end of 2027. Taihei Dengyo has allocated an investment of approximately JPY 3 billion (USD 20.3 million / EUR 17.3 million) for the project.
Partnership with Local Authorities
The initiative stems from a sustainable community development agreement between Taihei Dengyo and Murakami City. Through this partnership, the company has committed to advancing eco-friendly energy solutions and contributing to the economic development of the local community.
Strategic Significance
The project marks a significant step in Taihei Dengyo’s efforts to expand its footprint in the renewable energy sector, while also supporting regional sustainability and Japan’s broader decarbonisation targets.
