TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, among India’s most prominent and rapidly expanding biofuel manufacturers, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) to set up a major Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production units in the state. The planned facility—designed to produce 80,000 tonnes per annum—will be developed in the Srikakulam–Vizianagaram belt of Andhra Pradesh and is expected to rank among the largest of its kind globally, according to the press release.
As part of the agreement, TruAlt will commit roughly Rs. 2,250 crore toward building an integrated unit that converts ethanol into SAF. This large-scale project is projected to generate more than 500 direct employment opportunities and close to 2,000 indirect jobs, providing a significant boost to the region’s industrial ecosystem and supporting broader economic development.
Leveraging its status as India’s top ethanol producer, TruAlt intends to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality feedstock and utilize the Alcohol-to-Jet Synthetic Paraffinic Kerosene (ATJ-SPK) process—an ICAO-approved method. The approach involves transforming sugar-derived feedstock into ethanol, which is subsequently refined into aviation-grade jet fuel. Through this pathway, the company aims to produce low-emission, globally certified SAF while enabling a robust, scalable supply chain rooted in India’s abundant agricultural and bio-based resources.
Commenting on the collaboration, TruAlt Bioenergy Managing Director Vijay Nirani said, “This MoU signifies a pivotal step not only for TruAlt but also for India’s broader clean-energy ambitions. Sustainable Aviation Fuel has become an urgent requirement for the world, and by setting up one of the largest ethanol-to-SAF plants in Andhra Pradesh, we are working toward decarbonising one of the most challenging sectors—aviation.”
Nirani also highlighted India’s SAF blending mandate, noting that TruAlt is well-positioned to support the country’s targets: “As India’s largest ethanol manufacturer, we can combine our feedstock advantages with advanced ATJ-SPK technology to create a dependable, future-ready SAF ecosystem. We are proud to partner with the Government of Andhra Pradesh in moving this national and global decarbonisation effort forward.”
This initiative underscores TruAlt Bioenergy’s broader commitment to accelerating India’s energy transition and offering practical solutions for sectors that are traditionally difficult to decarbonise. By establishing one of the world’s leading ethanol-to-SAF plants, the company aims to strengthen India’s standing in the global sustainable aviation fuel market and contribute to long-term climate and industry resilience.
