Peaks Renewables and Biogas Development team up to enhance renewable gas production

Peaks Renewables has entered into a strategic partnership with Biogas Development to boost renewable gas output at the Hidden Hollow Energy Landfill Gas Project in Boise, Idaho. As part of the collaboration, Peaks is providing preferred equity financing to help expand and fine-tune operations at the site, which converts landfill-derived gas into renewable natural gas (RNG) distributed throughout Idaho and to other markets, according to the press release.

This investment further strengthens Peaks Renewables’ nationwide renewable gas portfolio and underscores its broader mission to advance dependable, clean-energy infrastructure through long-term partnerships. With the new support, the Hidden Hollow project aims to expand distributed energy capacity, cut emissions, stimulate economic activity, and reinforce the energy stability of Ada County and nearby communities.

“The Boise Landfill Gas Project shows how effective cooperation between public and private sectors can accelerate progress toward a low-carbon future,” said Lizzy Reinholt, President of Peaks Renewables. “Our investment reflects our dedication to scaling renewable gas solutions that convert wasted resources into high-value energy, fuel local economies, and improve system resilience. We’re excited to work with Biogas Development on a project that transforms local waste into a dependable renewable resource.”

As per the press release, Biogas Development CEO Ahren Tryon noted the company’s nearly decade-long focus on landfill gas innovation, emphasizing the significance of the Boise facility. “This is Idaho’s first project of its kind,” Tryon said. “Partnering with Peaks allows us to continue expanding the facility and strengthening landfill gas’s contribution to the state’s energy landscape. It’s a powerful example of how long-term investment and collaboration can fuel innovation, reliability, and greater energy independence.”

Operational since early 2025, the Hidden Hollow Energy Landfill Gas Project extracts methane generated from decomposing waste at the Ada County Landfill and refines it into pipeline-grade RNG, which is then fed into the regional gas network.

The Boise installation exemplifies circular-economy principles—turning waste into a renewable resource while reducing emissions and supporting local self-reliance in energy.

Peaks Renewables received legal counsel from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, while Holland & Knight represented Biogas Development.
