In a pioneering move, the Sino-German joint venture BMW Brilliance has become the first automaker in China to utilize green hydrogen trucks for logistics, following the establishment of the nation’s inaugural hydrogen refueling station in Shenyang, Liaoning province.
Franz Decker, the president and CEO of BMW Brilliance, expressed gratitude for the support from various government levels, stating, “Together with local partners, we are aligning with China’s hydrogen energy development plan and actively driving innovation in the hydrogen sector.”
This initiative is part of BMW Brilliance’s long-standing commitment to sustainable practices, marking a significant step in their exploration of hydrogen logistics.
Hydrogen trucks provide numerous advantages for logistics, including extended range, rapid refueling, lightweight design, and zero emissions.
Earlier this year, BMW Brilliance encouraged its logistics partner, Huatong Logistics, to integrate hydrogen trucks into its operations, creating real demand for the new refueling station.
In parallel, China Huadian has employed advanced technology for large-scale green hydrogen production, supplying hydrogen for the station’s needs.
Local authorities in Shenyang and Dadong district have also rallied the China National Petroleum Corporation to contribute to the establishment of the hydrogen refueling station.
Decker expressed confidence in the future of green hydrogen energy, noting BMW’s over 40 years of expertise in hydrogen-powered systems and fuel cell technology.
Looking ahead, BMW plans to unveil its first series production fuel cell electric vehicle in 2028, furthering its commitment to a sustainable automotive future.
