Bio Capital has announced a partnership with Adnams, a brewery and hospitality group based in Southwold, to rebuild and modernise their (AD) anaerobic digestion facility in Reydon, Suffolk. This initiative aligns with Suffolk’s climate objectives and is expected to support the county’s shift toward sustainability.
Originally constructed in 2010, the facility will be redeveloped to comply with new legislation mandating UK local authorities to separately collect food waste from households. Currently, Suffolk lacks a dedicated AD facility for this purpose. By collaborating with Adnams, Bio Capital aims to address this critical need, thereby reducing landfill dependency, lowering carbon emissions, and transforming organic waste into renewable energy.
Once operational, the revamped facility will produce green fuel for Adnams’ heavy goods vehicle fleet, supply green gas to their brewery, and generate green CO2 for brewing processes. The project is also anticipated to create local jobs and establish Suffolk as a frontrunner in renewable energy.
Community involvement is a central focus of this initiative. Bio Capital and Adnams will hold public consultation events on October 8 and 9 at the Southwold Arts Centre from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. These sessions will provide local residents with information about the project, display images of the proposed facility, and allow attendees to share their feedback with company representatives.

Mick Fishwick, Chief Operating Officer of Bio Capital, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Adnams on this essential project, which underscores our mutual dedication to sustainability and renewable energy. This development in anaerobic digestion marks a significant advancement in reducing carbon emissions, recycling food waste, and aligning with Suffolk’s climate goals. Together, we are paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future for the region.”
Adnams CEO, Jenny Hanlon, remarked: “At Adnams, we have a strong commitment to sustainability, climate action, and community well-being. We’re excited that this project will empower homeowners in the community to make significant progress on their path to net zero by ensuring their household waste is put to beneficial use.”
She continued, “The new AD facility at our Reydon site will be a key element of Suffolk’s broader sustainability initiatives, seamlessly integrating with upcoming waste regulations and providing solutions for food waste recycling and renewable energy generation. It will also create long-term benefits for the local economy by generating new job opportunities and establishing Suffolk as a leader in the renewable energy sector.”
