The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has approved a loan of approximately BRL 37.6 million (USD 6.6 million/EUR 6.1 million) to enhance biomethane and biogas production at the Tambora facility in the state of Paraná. The loan for biogas project will help to boost its production.
The project, owned by local firm Geo Bio Gas & Carbon, aims to boost the facility’s biomethane and biogas production capacity to as much as 1,500 and 3,500 normal cubic meters per hour, respectively, according to BNDES’s announcement on Monday.
The funding will be sourced from the bank’s Climate Fund and its Finem Standard B, which supports the acquisition of new imported machinery and equipment in the absence of domestic alternatives.

Currently, the Tambora facility has the capability to generate around 21,000 MWh of electricity annually from continuous biogas production. Once the expansion is finalized, a significant portion of the biogas output is expected to be redirected for biomethane production, BNDES indicated.
