Danish PM calls for improved working conditions after fatal accident at biogas plant

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called for urgent reforms in working conditions for foreign laborers on Friday, following a fatal incident at a biogas plant on Funen Island earlier this week.

The accident, which occurred on Tuesday evening at the Flemlose Biogas Plant, left three workers dead—two from Romania and one from Belgium—and several others injured. Frederiksen described the event as “deeply tragic” and stressed the need for stronger workplace safety regulations to prevent such incidents.

“We must ensure proper working conditions, not only in terms of wages but also safety. Workers should never face the risk of losing their lives at their jobs,” Frederiksen said.

Initial investigations suggest the accident occurred during work involving the plant’s silo. Authorities are working with relevant agencies to determine the cause of the incident, though no further details have been released.

The Flemlose Biogas Plant, founded by three local farmers, produces up to 7 million cubic meters of gas annually, contributing to Denmark’s natural gas network, according to local reports.
