Denmark will delay the planned rollout of its green hydrogen transmission pipeline connecting western Denmark with northern Germany by three years, now targeting 2031 instead of 2028, the Danish Energy Ministry announced on Tuesday.
As per the report, the delay follows collaborative efforts with transmission system operator Energinet to ensure a more reliable timeline and minimize potential setbacks, Energy Minister Lars Aagaard said in a statement.
“The adjustment allows for better integration between the significant green power from offshore wind, hydrogen production, and demand in Germany,” Aagaard added.
Work on the transnational pipeline remains underway in partnership with the German government, the Danish ministry confirmed.
Germany’s Economy Ministry emphasized that while the delay impacts the Danish portion of the project, both nations are committed to accelerating its development, with the postponement not altering Germany’s ambitions to expand its hydrogen market.
“The pipeline is not the only route for importing hydrogen,” a ministry spokesperson remarked.
