Envitec Biogas enters Philippine market with First Quezon Biogas partnership

EnviTec Biogas has officially entered the Philippine market with a significant contract signing with First Quezon Biogas Corporation (FQBC). This collaboration focuses on a 1.4 MW biogas plant, which will serve an agricultural cooperative in Candelaria, Quezon Province, comprising 14 local poultry farmers. The plant is set to begin supplying electricity to Meralco’s local grid by June 2026, Meralco being the Philippines’ largest electricity provider.

“This contract is a milestone for us. It’s the successful completion of our inaugural reference plant in the Philippines, and it highlights our expertise in the local poultry manure sector,” said Thomas Wagner, Head of EnviTec’s Southeast Asia Representative Office in Jakarta. “We’re already receiving interest for additional projects following this achievement.”

While the project initially kicked off in 2018, it faced delays due to changes in the investor group. However, with the new investors now on board, the project has resumed, demonstrating that long-term dedication and perseverance in the region have paid off.

The plant site already features critical infrastructure, including two 5,250 m³ digesters, a biogas engine with transformer, a drive-over silo, a digestate lagoon, and a reception hall for poultry manure. “We’ve assessed the existing setup and are in a position to continue seamlessly from where construction left off,” Wagner added. “In the first quarter of 2026, we’ll begin installing the digesters, roofs, pumps, digestate treatment system, and plant controls.”

The biogas facility will generate renewable electricity by utilizing poultry manure from the cooperative’s 4.5 million chickens, along with rice straw silage. In addition to producing clean power, the plant will also produce high-quality biofertilizer.

“This project offers substantial benefits, both for us as operators and for the environment,” said Albert Alquiros, a member of FQBC’s management team. “By ensuring proper disposal of poultry manure in line with regulations and implementing advanced odor control technology, we reduce the environmental footprint. Plus, the local community will benefit from free, renewable electricity.”

Sammy De Jesus, FQBC’s President, highlighted the plant’s dual purpose: “This facility supports sustainable waste management for poultry farming, while also contributing renewable energy to the national grid.” With future growth in mind, Wagner added, “Plans for expansion are already underway. We are considering increasing the plant’s capacity and replicating this model in other parts of the country.”
