Nordic gas firm Gasum has inaugurated a new biogas filling station in Rauma, Finland, catering to both passenger and heavy-duty vehicles, the company announced on September 16.
The new station will provide both liquefied and compressed biogas, accommodating a variety of vehicles. As of August’s end, Gasum has ceased natural gas distribution at all its Finnish stations, with the Rauma facility now exclusively offering biogas.
Juho Kurra, Gasum’s head of Transport Finland, emphasized that the establishment of this gas station was driven by demands from heavy-duty transport operators. Rauma, known for its strategic location as a key logistics hub with a bustling port and significant industrial activities, including forestry, made it an ideal site. The station’s proximity to Highway 8 also positions it as a convenient refueling point for transport along Finland’s west coast.
Kurra underscored the environmental advantages of biogas, noting that its lifecycle emissions are, on average, 90% lower than those from traditional fossil fuels like diesel. Gasum aims to supply 7 TWh of renewable gas annually to the Nordic market by 2027, which is projected to cut CO2 emissions by 1.8 million tonnes per year for its customers.
