Fortisbc seeks new power sources to meet growing energy demands in southern interior

FortisBC has announced a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) to secure additional power sources to meet the increasing energy demands of its customers and to support economic growth in the Southern Interior region of British Columbia.

The company aims to collaborate with power providers on promising projects that will enhance electricity availability for its clientele. “As a key energy service provider in British Columbia, FortisBC is dedicated to ensuring safe, reliable, and affordable energy for the homes and businesses we serve,” stated Joe Mazza, vice president of energy supply and resource development.

He added, “As our customers’ energy needs expand, we are engaging with Indigenous and local communities, local governments, businesses, and organizations to address this rising demand. This initiative presents a significant opportunity for electricity generation providers to grow and create new jobs in B.C., while ensuring that our customers have access to the energy they require.”

FortisBC is seeking power providers experienced in project development within B.C. and focusing on innovative, lower-carbon, and renewable energy sources such as biomass, biogas, hydroelectricity, solar, wind, and geothermal projects. The company is particularly interested in new or existing projects with a minimum capacity of five megawatts.

With plans to add up to 1,100 gigawatt-hours of energy supply by 2030, FortisBC is keen to bolster its energy portfolio to meet future demands.
