Havila Biogass has named Dutch clean-tech company Nordsol as its strategic technology partner for the construction of three liquefied biogas (LBG or bio-LNG) production facilities in Norway. The plants—planned for Haugaland, Trøndelag, and Innlandet—are expected to begin operations between 2027 and 2028, according to the press release.
Each site will convert organic waste from farming and aquaculture, including manure and fish residues, into biogas. Using Nordsol’s state-of-the-art purification and liquefaction technology, this gas will be transformed into LBG, a renewable fuel that can significantly reduce emissions across Norway’s industrial and transport sectors.
“Nordsol stood out not only for their efficient and proven technology but also for the skill and commitment of their team,” said Kjell Evensgård, CEO of Havila Biogass. “Together, we’re accelerating the transition toward sustainable energy and moving closer to a circular, carbon-negative future.”
Each of the new plants will generate approximately 100 GWh of LBG annually, strengthening Havila Biogass’s mission to promote zero-emission energy through local resource circularity. Collectively, the three projects represent Norway’s largest-ever investment in biomethane production and a significant step toward industrial decarbonization, the news release further added.
Beyond these initial projects, Havila Biogass and Nordsol have also signed a Partnership Agreement to jointly develop an additional 400 GWh of LBG capacity, bringing their combined output to over 700 GWh, more than doubling Norway’s current biomethane supply.
“Havila Biogass is acting with the urgency our planet demands,” said Léon van Bossum, CEO of Nordsol. “Their ambition aligns perfectly with our vision to transform waste into value. Bio-LNG offers a tangible path to decarbonize today, and we’re proud to advance that mission together.”
The collaboration solidifies a new chapter in Norway’s circular energy economy, merging Nordic waste management expertise with European clean-tech innovation to deliver reliable, fossil-free energy nationwide.
Havila Biogass, part of the Havila Group—a Norwegian, family-owned company with over 1,200 employees—specializes in developing, constructing, and operating biogas plants across Norway. The company focuses on climate-positive solutions that integrate emission reduction, circular economy principles, and local value creation. It currently operates a facility in Møre og Romsdal and is advancing projects totaling 1,000 GWh of potential biogas capacity.
