Namibia Green hydrogen project to promote sustainability

Namibia is making strides in green hydrogen energy development, leveraging its natural resources to promote prosperity and sustainability, President Nangolo Mbumba stated in a recent interview with China Media Group (CMG). Namibia Green hydrogen project will play a key role.

As per the media report, Mbumba emphasized that Namibia’s hydrogen energy potential has gained global attention, largely inspired by the vision of the late former president Hage Geingob, who passed away in February. “Three or four years ago, we didn’t even know the word ‘hydrogen.’ Our late president recognized its importance, connected with experts, and advocated for its development. Today, experts worldwide acknowledge Namibia’s unique potential in this field,” he said, according to the media report.

The president highlighted that Namibia’s hydrogen exports aim to provide cleaner energy solutions globally, while the program itself will rely on renewable energy sources.

“We have the desert, a suitable harbor, wind, and one of the driest climates in the world. With nearly year-round sunshine, we are partnering with various companies to produce green hydrogen using solar and wind energy. We are developing the harbors in Luderitz and Walvis Bay to facilitate large ships that will transport green ammonia and hydrogen to Europe for industrial use, from trains to ships to automobiles. This is our ambitious plan, and we are committed to it. We are also training our youth to pursue degrees and advanced studies in this area, and our efforts have been successful thus far,” he added.
