Neste’s renewable diesel powers Verne’s Sustainable Data Centers in Finland

Neste’s renewable diesel is facilitating Verne’s transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy for its data center operations in Finland. The company, which specializes in sustainable solutions for high-intensity computing, will utilize Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ to fuel backup generators at its facilities in Helsinki, Pori, and Tampere, according to the press release.

By switching to Neste’s renewable diesel, Verne aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its backup generators by an average of 90% over the fuel’s life cycle compared to traditional fossil diesel. This move aligns with Verne’s commitment to minimizing the carbon footprint of its data center operations.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel is produced from 100% renewable raw materials, including animal fats from food industry waste and used cooking oil. With a chemical composition similar to that of fossil diesel, Neste’s renewable diesel allows Verne to transition without any modifications to its existing generator infrastructure. This is particularly beneficial for operations in Finland, where the renewable diesel performs well in extremely cold weather, capable of being stored at temperatures as low as -32°C and ensuring reliable start-up during cold conditions. Additionally, it can be stored for extended periods without degrading, making it an ideal choice for backup power during potential outages.

Neste’s renewable diesel not only lowers GHG emissions but also performs effectively in cold temperatures, making it the perfect solution for our operations here,” said Kim Gunnelius, Head of Finland at Verne.
