Shyam Metalics launches phase I of new greenfield cold rolling mill at Jamuria plant in West Bengal

Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd. (SMEL), a prominent integrated metal manufacturing company in India, is excited to announce the expansion of its production capabilities with the launch of a state-of-the-art Greenfield Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) in Jamuria, West Bengal. This investment underscores Shyam Metalics’ dedication to broadening its product range and enhancing its presence in both domestic and international markets.

According to the press release, the new facility, which has begun its trial run under Shyam Metalics Flat Product Pvt. Ltd., a fully owned step-down subsidiary of SMEL, aligns with government industrial policies and supports the company’s strategic objectives.

The Cold Rolling Mill, boasting an annual capacity of 400,000 tons, represents a cutting-edge addition to SMEL’s operations. The project has a total capital expenditure of ₹603 crores, with ₹346 crores already invested and ₹257 crores still to be invested. The mill will focus on producing pre-painted galvalume coils (PPGL) and coils of galvanized iron/galvanized steel (GI/GL). This expansion will enable Shyam Metalics to deliver top-quality steel products and further enhance its integrated steel manufacturing capabilities.

Mr. Brij Bhushan Aggarwal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd, remarked on the expansion, “Our entry into cold rolling mills highlights our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and contributing to India’s growth. This expansion is a vital step toward offering value-added products and will significantly boost our production capabilities. We are confident that this project will not only enhance the company’s revenue but also solidify our role as a major supplier of high-quality steel products in the region. By capitalizing on our lower production costs and logistical benefits, we expect to fully utilize the new facility within the next two years, contributing approximately 8% to 10% of the company’s revenue and EBITDA in the future.”

The media report further added that located strategically in eastern India, the new facility offers significant logistical advantages and addresses the region’s shortage of color-coated sheet manufacturing. Shyam Metalics’ investment in this greenfield project aims to strengthen its position as a leading steel industry player while contributing to regional economic growth. The Cold Rolling Mill will also support India’s shift toward sustainable manufacturing and is anticipated to enhance the company’s production capacities and revenue growth.

In addition to its focus on housing, warehousing, and industrial sheds, the new Cold Rolling Mill will particularly support affordable housing initiatives, such as PMAY. Shyam Metalics is poised to drive significant growth and advance the industrial development of the country while maintaining its steadfast commitment to environmental sustainability and renewable energy efforts.
