SunHydrogen announces completion of 1m² Green Hydrogen panel demonstration

SunHydrogen, Inc., a leader in renewable hydrogen technology, today announced the successful completion of a significant milestone: the demonstration of its innovative green hydrogen technology at a commercially relevant 1m² scale. This achievement marks a crucial step forward in the company’s efforts to produce hydrogen using only sunlight and water.

Integration of CTF Solar’s Solar Cells Accelerates Market Entry

Over the past year, SunHydrogen has focused on refining its technology by integrating solar cells from CTF Solar GmbH into its core system, enabling faster commercialization. The company’s unique design incorporates affordable, easy-to-manufacture photovoltaic materials, enhancing efficiency in producing clean hydrogen and oxygen from sunlight and water.

Progress in Hydrogen Efficiency and Cold-Weather Demonstration

In October 2024, SunHydrogen reported a 10.8% solar-to-hydrogen efficiency from its 100cm² hydrogen modules, developed in collaboration with CTF Solar, at the Honda R&D facility in Japan. Building on this success, the company achieved a major milestone on December 11, 2024, demonstrating hydrogen production in subfreezing temperatures outside its laboratory in Coralville, IA.

“Our successful 1m² demonstration marks a key milestone, and we are now ready to start selecting sites for larger-scale pilot demonstrations,” said Dr. Syed Mubeen, Chief Scientific Officer at SunHydrogen. “Next steps include further technology improvements, incorporating more cost-effective materials, and scaling to 25m² and beyond.”

Strategic Partnerships and Company Growth

This year, SunHydrogen secured joint development agreements with Honda R&D Co. and CTF Solar GmbH, strengthening its foothold in the hydrogen economy. The company also joined the Texas Hydrogen Alliance and welcomed new board member David Raney, who brings extensive expertise in transportation and energy regulation.

“We are grateful for the continued support from our shareholders, industrial partners, and local businesses,” said Tim Young, CEO of SunHydrogen. “A special thanks to our partners, including Honda R&D Co., the University of Iowa, the University of Michigan, Niigata Co., Ltd, and our expert consultants for their invaluable support. We look forward to sharing more updates as we continue our journey toward emission-free hydrogen production.”

About SunHydrogen, Inc.

SunHydrogen, Inc. is pioneering technologies for the sustainable production, storage, and use of green hydrogen, aiming to play a key role in a hydrogen economy projected to be worth $12 trillion by 2050. The company’s SunHydrogen Panels, currently in development, aim to generate low-cost green hydrogen by using sunlight and any source of water. SunHydrogen envisions becoming a leading technology supplier, enabling emission-free hydrogen production for industrial applications such as fertilizer production, petroleum refining, and fuel cells for mobility and data centers.
