Evero Energy reports record-breaking quarter, advances clean energy goals

Evero Energy (Evero), a prominent waste-wood-to-energy and BECCS (Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage) company, has announced its most successful quarter to date, delivering 113,000 MWh of clean electricity to the national grid and industrial partners. This achievement highlights the company’s commitment to sustainable energy production and operational excellence.

Evero’s biomass plants in Ince, Mersey, and Lisahally demonstrated exceptional performance, with consistently high availability and generation hours. Notably, the Ince facility saw a 13% improvement in availability during the fourth quarter of 2024. The plant also set a new utilization record, generating 36,403 MWh of electricity, driven by operational upgrades and efficiency enhancements.

Mark Roberts, Head of Engineering at Evero, commented on the milestone, stating, “By optimizing efficiency and reliability across our facilities, we’ve significantly increased energy output and maximized the value of our operations. The record-breaking performance at our Ince plant reflects our dedication to continuous improvement and technical expertise.”

Since acquiring full ownership of the Mersey Bioenergy plant in 2023, Evero has focused on improving fuel quality, emphasizing factors such as size, calorific value, and moisture content. These efforts have enhanced the performance and reliability of its operations. At the Ince facility, advancements like automating Flue Gas Recirculation, optimizing back-end temperature controls, and fine-tuning Air-Cooled Condensers have further boosted plant efficiency.

Looking to the future, Evero is accelerating its plans for BECCS technology, which captures and stores carbon dioxide from flue gases while continuing to export power to the grid. The company’s two BECCS projects, which have successfully passed the UK government’s Track 1 deliverability assessment, have the potential to capture over 400,000 tonnes of carbon annually. This positions waste-wood-to-energy as a critical solution for achieving negative emissions and supporting the UK’s clean power targets by 2030.

Roberts added, “This record quarter underscores the dual benefits of waste-wood-to-energy assets. Not only are we increasing clean power generation today, but by advancing BECCS, we are proud to contribute to the UK’s net zero ambitions and the essential greenhouse gas removals required to meet those goals.”

Evero’s achievements highlight its role as a leader in sustainable energy innovation, driving both immediate and long-term environmental benefits.
