JC Chemical eyes UCO facility in Malaysia to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel

South Korea’s JC Chemical Co Ltd is considering the establishment of a used cooking oil processing facility in Malaysia to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The potential investment supports Malaysia’s ambition to position itself as a regional hub for green aviation energy.

Aligned with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Goals

The initiative was announced by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, who said the proposal aligns with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030). Both frameworks aim to accelerate the nation’s shift toward a sustainable, high-value industrial economy.

Tengku Zafrul noted that the project would enhance Malaysia’s biofuel value chain while attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) into the fast-growing clean energy sector, which plays a key role in supporting global decarbonisation efforts.

Advancing Malaysia’s Sustainable Aviation Ecosystem

“The future of greener aviation begins here,” Tengku Zafrul said in a social media post, emphasizing how the collaboration could transform waste into renewable energy (RE) and strengthen Malaysia’s position within Asia’s sustainable aviation ecosystem.

Boost to Renewable Energy and Circular Economy

If implemented, JC Chemical’s investment would mark a significant milestone in Malaysia’s renewable energy and circular economy agenda. By converting everyday waste into cleaner aviation fuel, the project would represent a major step toward achieving the country’s low-carbon future.
