REI Expo 2026 attracts over ₹3,200 crore in bioenergy investment, Says IBA

Investors have pledged more than ₹3,200 crore for India's biogas and compressed biogas sector following the three-day Renewable Energy India Expo 2026 in Greater Noida, according to the Indian Biogas Association.

India’s biogas and compressed biogas (CBG) sector attracted investment pledges exceeding ₹3,200 crore at the Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2026, according to industry body the Indian Biogas Association (IBA).

The three-day exhibition was held from October 22 to 24 at the India Expo Mart and Centre in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. It brought together industry stakeholders to explore business partnerships, emerging technologies and opportunities to expand bioenergy production in India.

In a statement following the event, the IBA said the expo had generated an estimated investment pipeline of more than ₹3,200 crore, reflecting investor interest in the country’s biogas and CBG markets.

REI Expo Provides Platform for Bioenergy Investment

The exhibition provided an opportunity for companies, investors and other industry participants to engage on potential business collaborations and technology developments in the bioenergy sector.

According to the IBA, discussions at the event covered opportunities to scale up biogas and CBG production across the country.

The investment pledges indicate interest in expanding the sector’s production capacity and commercial activity. However, the association’s statement did not disclose the number of investors involved, individual investment commitments, proposed project locations or the expected capacity additions associated with the pipeline.

India’s Biogas and CBG Sector Attracts Investment Interest

The reported investment pipeline comes as India’s biogas industry continues to attract attention from businesses and investors looking at opportunities in renewable gas production.

CBG production involves upgrading biogas to increase its methane concentration and meet the required quality specifications for applications such as transport fuel and industrial energy.

The extent to which the investment pledges translate into operational projects will depend on project development, financing, feedstock availability, technology deployment and market conditions.

Investment Pipeline Exceeds IBA’s Pre-Expo Projection

The investment figure exceeds the Indian Biogas Association’s pre-event projection of more than ₹2,800 crore by at least ₹400 crore, or approximately 14.3%. In September 2026, the association had estimated that REI Expo 2026 could unlock over ₹2,800 crore in fresh investment opportunities for India’s bioenergy sector.

The post-event figure of more than ₹3,200 crore suggests that the investment pipeline surpassed that initial estimate. However, both figures represent projected investment opportunities or pledges, rather than capital confirmed as deployed.

Bioenergy Business Analysis

The reported ₹3,200 crore investment pipeline at REI Expo 2026 offers an indication of investor interest in India’s biogas and CBG sector. The scale of the figure makes it relevant to developers, equipment suppliers, technology providers and investors tracking the country’s renewable gas market.

However, investment pledges should not be confused with committed project financing, capital expenditure or investments already deployed. The IBA statement does not provide a project-wise breakdown or clarify how much of the reported pipeline has reached financial closure.

The next indicator to watch will be whether these reported investment interests translate into formal project announcements and operational capacity additions. That will help establish the extent to which the expo contributes to the expansion of India’s bioenergy infrastructure.
