Raiyani Greensphere Corporation’s Bio-CBG plant in Rajkot, Gujarat, has received approval from GAIL under the Administered CBG Price (ACP) framework, according to an announcement by the project’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and technology partner, Biofics.
The approval marks a commercial milestone for the plant, which produces compressed biogas (CBG) from organic feedstocks. Biofics said the project is among a limited number of Bio-CBG facilities in Gujarat to have achieved this milestone.
The ACP framework forms part of the Central Government’s GOBARdhan scheme for developing India’s compressed biogas sector. Under the framework, GAIL has been designated as the Synchro Operator responsible for making payments to eligible CBG producers. The administered price is set at ₹2,110 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), equivalent to approximately ₹98 per kg at 95% methane content, excluding taxes and compression charges.
Rajkot plant has a 5 TPD CBG production capacity
The Raiyani Greensphere Corporation facility is located in Rajkot and has a reported designed CBG production capacity of five tonnes per day (TPD).
Information published by Biofics identifies Napier grass, cow dung and potato waste among the plant’s feedstocks, with an approximate daily processing requirement of 120 tonnes. The facility has previously been reported as operational, with production commencing in August 2025.
Biofics served as the plant’s EPC and technology partner, contributing to engineering, plant integration and technical execution. The company said the GAIL approval strengthens the project’s commercial pathway and supports its long-term operating prospects.
GOBARdhan framework introduces administered pricing for CBG
The ACP mechanism is one of the components of the GOBARdhan scheme, which aims to strengthen the commercial framework for compressed biogas production in India.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas published component-wise operational guidelines for the scheme in September 2026. The pricing framework is intended to provide greater revenue visibility for eligible CBG producers, while the wider scheme also covers offtake assurance, capital assistance, pipeline infrastructure and credit guarantee support.
GAIL’s role as Synchro Operator connects the pricing mechanism with the procurement and sale of CBG. Producers must meet the applicable scheme and technical requirements to qualify for the framework.
Bioenergy Business Analysis
The approval comes as India develops a more structured commercial framework for compressed biogas production. For operating facilities, eligibility under the ACP mechanism could provide greater clarity on the pricing and revenue side of project operations.
The Raiyani Greensphere milestone also highlights the importance of moving beyond plant construction and commissioning towards participation in formal procurement and pricing arrangements. However, the announcement does not disclose the plant’s approved CBG volumes, applicable contract duration or expected revenue under the ACP framework. Those details would be needed to assess the full commercial impact of the approval.
