The Israeli Sustainable Aviation Fuel Knowledge Center (iSAF) has been opened at the Technion, marking a pivotal step toward advancing sustainable fuel production for the aviation industry. According to a Technion press release, the initiative aims to bolster Israel’s capabilities in developing local technology and industry for alternative aviation fuels.
Israel is working toward a target of locally producing sustainable aviation fuels by 2030, with international aviation regulations set to mandate the exclusive use of these fuels by 2050.
The iSAF center is designed with five main objectives: developing a national strategy for alternative aviation fuels, establishing cutting-edge research infrastructure, cultivating scientific leadership, promoting collaboration between academia and industry, and disseminating knowledge to both the public and decision-makers.
Supported by Israel’s Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology and in partnership with Boeing, the center will be led by experts from Technion’s Wolfson Faculty of Chemical Engineering, along with researchers from Bar-Ilan University and Ben-Gurion University.
