Juniper Green Energy Limited has commissioned 35 MW of wind power capacity as part of its 150 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Project awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), taking its installed capacity under the project to 175 MWp against the planned 190 MWp.
Officials from the Gujarat Energy Development Agency and Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited have confirmed the commissioning at the project site, according to a regulatory filing by Juniper Green. The company said the formal commissioning certificate is expected to be issued shortly.
The latest addition strengthens Juniper Green’s renewable generation portfolio in Gujarat and advances the company’s execution of hybrid projects combining wind and solar generation.
35 MW wind capacity added to Gujarat project
The newly commissioned 35 MW forms part of the GUVNL-awarded hybrid project, which has a planned capacity of 190 MWp according to Juniper Green’s latest disclosure.
With the new wind capacity, the company’s capacity under the project has reached 175 MWp.
The commissioning confirmation by state energy authorities marks an operational milestone for the project, although the formal certificate had not yet been issued at the time of the company’s regulatory disclosure.
The project forms part of Juniper Green’s wider portfolio of wind-solar hybrid assets, an area in which the company has secured multiple contracts from power-sector entities in recent years.
Juniper Green’s operating portfolio reaches 2,639 MWp
The commissioning also increases the scale of Juniper Green Energy and its subsidiaries’ operational renewable-energy portfolio.
As of the date of the disclosure, the group reported aggregate operational capacity of approximately 2,639 MWp, alongside approximately 500 MWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity.
The combination of renewable generation and battery storage reflects the company’s broader expansion across utility-scale clean-energy infrastructure.
The latest wind commissioning adds to the company’s operating base while the remaining capacity under the 190 MWp hybrid project is progressed.
Gujarat remains a key market for hybrid projects
Juniper Green has previously secured several hybrid renewable-energy projects in Gujarat through GUVNL tenders.
In January 2024, Juniper Green Energy and KPI Green Energy emerged as successful bidders for part of a 500 MW grid-connected wind-solar hybrid power project in Gujarat. Juniper Green was awarded a 150 MW contract at ₹3.04 per kWh, while KPI Green Energy secured 50 MW at ₹2.99 per kWh.
The auction also included a greenshoe provision that enabled an additional 500 MW allocation.
Juniper Green subsequently expanded its hybrid portfolio through PPAs signed in July 2024 with GUVNL and NTPC, covering a combined 480 MW of hybrid renewable-energy capacity.
Under the GUVNL Hybrid Phase-I project, Juniper Green secured 190 MW of hybrid capacity, comprising 140 MW of solar and 50 MW of wind.
The company also secured a 290 MW hybrid project from NTPC under Hybrid Tranche-I. That project comprises 210 MW of solar and 80 MW of wind capacity across Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Hybrid generation becomes a larger part of renewable deployment
Wind-solar hybrid projects allow developers to combine two variable renewable-generation sources within a single project structure. The combination can provide a more diversified generation profile than relying exclusively on either solar or wind.
For Juniper Green, the latest commissioning demonstrates continued execution of its contracted hybrid portfolio while expanding its operational wind capacity.
The company’s Gujarat projects also illustrate the importance of competitive state-level renewable-energy auctions and long-term power purchase agreements in driving utility-scale hybrid deployment.
Bioenergy Business Analysis
Juniper Green’s 35 MW wind commissioning is a relatively small addition to its overall portfolio, but it is important in the context of the company’s hybrid project execution. Bringing wind capacity online moves the 190 MWp GUVNL project closer to completion while adding to a broader portfolio that already includes substantial solar and wind capacity.
The development also highlights the increasing role of hybrid projects in India’s utility-scale renewable market. For Juniper Green, the immediate milestone is completion of the remaining capacity under the project and formal issuance of the commissioning certificate. The company’s reported 2,639 MWp of operational capacity and approximately 500 MWh of BESS indicate that hybrid generation is being developed alongside a broader renewable and storage portfolio.
