Neste, a leading provider of sustainable fuel solutions, has teamed up with Italian fuel distributor Firmin to introduce Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ to Italy, marking the first availability of this renewable fuel in the country. The partnership, which began in January 2025, aims to support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Italy’s transportation sector.
Neste MY Renewable Diesel (HVO100), a drop-in renewable fuel, is designed to reduce carbon emissions by replacing traditional fossil diesel without requiring any modifications to existing vehicle fleets. This fuel is made from 100% renewable raw materials, such as waste and residue oils, and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% over its life cycle compared to conventional diesel.
“We are proud to collaborate with Firmin to bring Neste MY Renewable Diesel to Italy. This partnership is a significant step in enhancing our presence in a market where demand for renewable diesel is growing as part of efforts to decarbonize transportation,” said Per Emanuelson, Head of Commercial EMEA at Neste’s Renewable Products division. “Through this collaboration, we are expanding access to more sustainable transportation solutions across Europe.”
Firmin, a long-established player in Italy’s fuel distribution network, welcomed the launch, emphasizing the importance of this move for the country’s road transport sector. “This partnership with Neste is a step toward more sustainable road transportation in Italy, offering businesses the chance to transition from fossil diesel to renewable diesel,” said Nicola Minzocchi and Manuel Minzocchi, CEOs of Firmin.
Italy’s logistics firms, public fleets, and large-scale fleet operators are increasingly seeking ways to cut emissions, yet a large portion of Italian road transport still relies on fossil fuels. Neste MY Renewable Diesel offers a straightforward solution for companies looking to reduce their carbon footprint, enabling them to lower emissions by using existing diesel engines without the need for costly fleet replacements or vehicle modifications.
The move comes as Italy joins other European countries in prioritizing cleaner fuels to help meet emissions reduction targets. With Neste MY Renewable Diesel, Italian companies can take a significant step toward meeting sustainability goals while continuing to use their current diesel-powered vehicles.
