Suzuki to introduce ethanol-powered cars in Pakistan, plans biogas plant near Lahore

Pakistan is aiming to modernize its automotive sector by introducing ethanol-based fuel, ensuring vehicle engine compatibility, and promoting the use of locally manufactured auto components.

This initiative was a key focus during a meeting between Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) for Industries and Production, and Hiroshi Kawamura, CEO of Pak Suzuki.

Haroon Akhtar Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to bio-gas and electric vehicle development, emphasizing the potential for Pakistan and Japan to collaborate on industrial projects, particularly in the green energy sector.

According to the press release, Pak Suzuki’s proposal to set up a biogas plant in Manga Mandi, near Lahore, was welcomed as a step toward enhancing the country’s renewable energy capacity. Khan highlighted Pakistan’s significance as a key market for Pak Suzuki and encouraged further cooperation in the automotive industry.

These discussions align with the government’s “Uraan” initiative, which promotes eco-friendly transportation, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable mobility. Congratulating Haroon Akhtar Khan on his new role, Hiroshi Kawamura expressed confidence in strengthening economic and technological collaboration between Japan and Pakistan.
