North Star Renewable Energy has appointed Rohit Anand as a Board Member, according to an announcement shared by Anand on LinkedIn. The appointment brings the British International Investment (BII) executive into the governance of the renewable energy platform established in India by BII and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
Anand is Managing Director and Head of Asia Infrastructure and Climate Direct Investments at BII. His investment responsibilities cover infrastructure and energy-transition opportunities across emerging Asian markets.
In his LinkedIn announcement, Anand described North Star as the third renewable energy infrastructure platform being built from scratch in India and the sixth in Asia. He also said he would be working with Peter Jannik Sjøntoft of CIP.
North Star’s investment strategy
North Star was launched in May 2026 as a US$300 million renewable energy platform, with BII and CIP each committing up to US$150 million. It was established to develop and scale renewable energy projects in India and attract additional private investment.
The platform is targeting investments across solar, wind, hybrid renewable energy and energy storage. Its proposed portfolio is expected to generate more than 4 million MWh of clean electricity annually and avoid approximately 4 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year, according to the launch announcement.
North Star is also the first investment under BII’s British Climate Partners (BCP) strategy, a £1.1 billion climate finance initiative intended to mobilise private capital for climate-related investments in emerging and coal-dependent economies.
Bioenergy Business Analysis
Anand’s appointment is a leadership and governance development for North Star as it builds its renewable energy investment platform in India. The platform’s focus on solar, wind, hybrid projects and storage places it within the broader renewable energy infrastructure market.
The appointment itself does not represent the announcement of a new power project, investment amount or additional generation capacity. North Star’s US$300 million platform commitment was announced in May 2026; the latest development is Anand’s board appointment.
