Rajesh Prajapati has announced his appointment as Senior Vice President – Mechanical at Gruner Renewable Energy, adding a new leadership responsibility to his career spanning around two decades in India’s energy sector.
Prajapati shared the appointment announcement on LinkedIn. His professional journey began at Gujarat Gas. Over the following years, he gained experience across multiple organisations and locations, working through the development of India’s city gas distribution (CGD) sector and the subsequent emergence of compressed biogas (CBG).
Two decades of experience in the energy sector
Prajapati’s professional background includes associations with Gujarat Gas, Torrent Gas and IMC Limited, according to publicly available professional-profile information. His career has involved engineering and leadership responsibilities across the gas and energy sectors.
In a LinkedIn post marking 20 years in the industry, Prajapati highlighted his contribution to developing CBG infrastructure at Gruner. He referred to his involvement in establishing engineering and project-execution frameworks and supporting the company’s expansion in the renewable energy sector.
Gruner Renewable Energy’s focus on Bio-CNG infrastructure
Gruner Renewable Energy develops renewable fuel projects using biomass and organic waste, with a focus on Bio-CNG and compressed biogas infrastructure in India.
The company’s activities cover project development, engineering, technology integration, plant construction and operations and maintenance. Its solutions include anaerobic digestion using continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR) technology, along with biogas treatment and upgrading systems.
The company is expanding its presence in India’s CBG sector. In October 2026, Gruner entered into a proposed 50:50 joint venture with Petronet LNG to develop 10 CBG plants, each with a planned capacity of 18 tonnes per day. The proposed portfolio represents a combined capacity of 180 tonnes per day and an estimated investment of ₹1,200 crore.
Bioenergy Business Analysis
Prajapati’s appointment comes as Gruner continues to develop its CBG project portfolio. Mechanical engineering and project execution are important functions in this segment, where plant design, equipment integration, commissioning and operational reliability influence project performance.
His experience across the gas sector and CBG infrastructure is relevant to the engineering requirements of a growing Bio-CNG business. The appointment also reflects the importance of experienced technical leadership as companies move from project development towards the execution and operation of multiple facilities.
