REnergy Dynamics Co-Founder and CEO Varun Karad has been appointed Co-Chair of the Committee on Compressed Biogas (CBG) under the CII National Bioenergy Committee for 2026–27.
The working group will focus on strengthening India’s compressed biogas ecosystem and identifying measures to support greater demand for CBG across the country.
Its agenda will cover several key challenges affecting the CBG sector, including feedstock availability, project financing, regulatory approvals, market development and monetisation of co-products.
Karad’s experience in CBG project development and technology is expected to bring an industry perspective to the committee’s discussions. The group will work towards developing practical recommendations addressing challenges faced by stakeholders across the CBG value chain.
The initiative comes as the development of a stronger CBG ecosystem remains linked to the availability of sustainable feedstock, access to project finance, regulatory clarity and the creation of viable markets for compressed biogas and associated products.
Through its work during 2026–27, the CII committee will seek to identify sector-level measures that can support CBG project development and contribute to wider adoption of the fuel in India.
Karad’s appointment places an industry representative with experience in CBG projects and technology in a working group focused on addressing practical barriers to sector development.
The committee’s focus on both supply-side challenges, such as feedstock and financing, and demand-side issues, including market development, reflects the range of factors influencing the expansion of India’s CBG industry.
The recommendations emerging from the working group could provide inputs for stakeholders seeking to improve project execution, strengthen market opportunities and support the broader development of India’s bioenergy ecosystem.
About the CII National Bioenergy Committee

It works to facilitate dialogue and develop practical recommendations aimed at strengthening India’s bioenergy ecosystem and supporting wider adoption of bioenergy solutions.
Bioenergy Business Analysis
The appointment of Varun Karad as Co-Chair of the CII National Bioenergy Committee’s CBG Working Group highlights the industry’s growing focus on addressing the practical barriers to scaling compressed biogas in India. The group’s priorities—feedstock availability, project financing, regulatory approvals, market development and co-product monetisation—cover several of the key factors that influence CBG project viability beyond plant construction and technology.
For the CBG sector, the working group’s focus on demand creation and market development is particularly relevant. Developing clearer pathways for feedstock sourcing, financing and revenue generation could help address project-level challenges and support greater participation across the CBG value chain. Its recommendations may also provide an industry perspective for policymakers and stakeholders working to expand India’s bioenergy ecosystem.
