Jakson Biofuels has announced an expansion of its grain-based ethanol manufacturing facility in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, increasing the plant’s capacity from 150 KLPD to 200 KLPD.
The expansion will add 50 KLPD of additional ethanol production capacity to the existing facility located at Basi village in Waraseoni tehsil of Balaghat district.
Jakson Biofuels currently operates a 150 KLPD grain-based ethanol plant at the site. The facility uses agricultural feedstocks, including broken rice and maize, for ethanol production.
With the proposed expansion, the facility’s installed capacity will rise by approximately 33%, from 150 KLPD to 200 KLPD.
The Balaghat project is strategically located in a region known for rice production and has access to maize and other agricultural feedstocks. Jakson has previously highlighted the site’s proximity to Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh as an advantage for distribution and market access.
The expansion comes as Jakson Biofuels continues to strengthen its position in India’s grain-based ethanol sector. The company has identified ethanol and biofuels as an important part of its broader clean-energy portfolio.
Bioenergy Business Analysis
The expansion from 150 KLPD to 200 KLPD represents a relatively measured capacity increase compared with the larger expansion potential Jakson has discussed for the Balaghat facility.
Adding 50 KLPD would increase the plant’s daily production capability by one-third while allowing the company to build on an already operational asset rather than developing an entirely new facility.
The choice of grain-based ethanol also gives Jakson exposure to India’s expanding ethanol-blending ecosystem, while the Balaghat location provides access to key agricultural feedstocks such as rice and maize.
For Jakson Biofuels, the immediate 200 KLPD expansion could also serve as a stepping stone for further capacity growth in the future. The company has previously indicated that the Balaghat facility has significantly higher expansion potential.
From an industry perspective, the announcement is another indication that ethanol producers are continuing to add capacity and optimise existing assets as India’s biofuel market expands.
