Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd (SWREL) has secured two renewable energy orders worth more than ₹985 crore, including a 534.3 MWp solar project in Rajasthan and two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects with a combined capacity of 616 MWh in South Africa. The orders expand the company’s activity across utility-scale solar engineering and battery storage in India and international markets.
The orders were announced on September 22, 2026. The Rajasthan contract comes from a leading Indian independent power producer (IPP), while the South African BESS contracts were awarded by a leading Middle East-based renewable energy project developer.
534.3 MWp Solar Order Secured in Rajasthan
The domestic order covers a 534.3 MWp solar project in Rajasthan and involves the Balance of System (BOS) package.
SWREL said the Rajasthan contract is from a new customer. The company has not disclosed the name of the IPP in the announcement.
The BOS scope generally covers the non-module components and infrastructure required to make a solar power project operational, although the detailed contractual scope and execution schedule were not disclosed in the supplied announcement.
The Rajasthan project is also expected to contribute to emissions reductions. SWREL has estimated that the project could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 0.80 million tonnes after commissioning. This figure is a company estimate rather than an independently verified emissions measurement.
South Africa BESS Orders Add 616 MWh of Storage
The second order covers two BESS projects in South Africa with a combined energy storage capacity of 616 MWh. Each project has a capacity of 308 MWh.
The contracts were awarded by a leading renewable energy project developer based in the Middle East and represent a repeat-client relationship for SWREL.
The South African package is structured as a turnkey EPC wrap. According to the company, the contract represents its second-largest utility-scale BESS project to date.
The addition of 616 MWh of storage capacity strengthens SWREL’s presence in the utility-scale energy storage segment, alongside its established solar EPC activities.
Orders Expand Solar and Energy Storage Portfolio
The combined value of the Rajasthan and South African contracts exceeds ₹985 crore, including taxes, according to the company’s disclosure.
The two orders also give SWREL exposure to different segments of the renewable power infrastructure market. The Rajasthan project is focused on utility-scale solar generation, while the South African contracts centre on large-scale battery storage.

Share Price Rises After Order Announcement
SWREL shares moved higher after the order announcement on September 22.
Moneycontrol reported that the stock was in focus following the ₹985 crore order win, while other market reports recorded gains of around 5–8% during morning trading. The Economic Times reported that the shares reached an intraday high of ₹186.66 on the NSE, representing a gain of nearly 8% at that point.
The share-price movement reflects market trading following the announcement and should be distinguished from the underlying value and execution of the newly awarded contracts.
Solar and BESS Remain Core Growth Areas
The latest contracts reinforce SWREL’s exposure to two areas of renewable infrastructure that require large-scale engineering and construction capabilities: utility solar and energy storage.
The company’s business includes engineering, procurement and construction services for utility-scale solar, floating solar, hybrid and energy storage projects. Earlier company disclosures have also highlighted its international project activity.
For the new contracts, however, important commercial details remain undisclosed, including individual contract values, project execution timelines and commissioning dates.
The Rajasthan project also marks a new customer relationship, while the South African BESS contract comes from an existing customer, providing two different channels for order expansion.

SWREL’s latest order intake reflects the increasing convergence between renewable generation and energy storage in utility-scale power projects. The Rajasthan solar contract adds generation capacity to its domestic EPC portfolio, while the South African BESS contracts extend its work in a segment focused on storing and dispatching electricity.
The combined ₹985 crore-plus value is significant in terms of new contracted work, but the ultimate contribution to revenue and profitability will depend on project execution, contractual milestones and cost management.
