Vikram Solar secures 187 MW module supply order for Karnataka, Tamil Nadu projects

Vikram Solar has secured a 187 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) module supply order for projects at three locations across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Vikram Solar has secured a 187 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) module supply order for projects at three locations across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Under the agreement, the Kolkata-based manufacturer will supply N-type Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) G12R modules with power ratings ranging from 615 watts-peak (Wp) to 625 Wp. The modules feature glass-to-glass construction and bifacial technology.

The latest contract extends an existing relationship between Vikram Solar and the renewable energy developer. According to the company, the order reflects continued demand for its module technology and manufacturing capabilities.

The agreement comes as India expands its domestic solar manufacturing base and renewable power capacity. The country has set a target of 500 GW of installed non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity by 2030. India had reached approximately 300.5 GW of non-fossil capacity by 31 July 2026, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

The new order adds to Vikram Solar’s project pipeline as it expands its high-efficiency cell manufacturing capabilities. However, the company did not disclose a delivery schedule or provide project-level details for the three locations.

The modules selected for the projects combine N-type TOPCon cell technology with glass-to-glass construction and bifacial design.

The use of these technologies is relevant to utility-scale projects, where module efficiency, land availability, system design and long-term operating performance influence project economics.

Commenting on the order, Sameer Nagpal, chief executive officer of Vikram Solar, said the company was focused on technologies that deliver performance, reliability and long-term value as India’s solar sector expands.

Nagpal also highlighted the company’s commitment to developing its technology capabilities and maintaining manufacturing and execution standards for customers.

The announcement did not disclose the developer’s name, project capacities at each location, the contract value or the expected commissioning dates.

Bioenergy Business Analysis

Vikram Solar’s 187 MW order illustrates the continued role of domestic module manufacturers in supplying India’s expanding solar project pipeline. The use of N-type TOPCon bifacial modules also reflects the industry’s focus on improving module-level output and project performance.

For the wider energy transition, solar expansion complements other non-fossil energy sources, including wind, hydropower and bioenergy. However, solar module supply orders should not be treated as direct evidence of additional renewable electricity generation: the eventual contribution depends on project construction, commissioning, grid connectivity and actual operating performance.

The order’s longer-term significance will therefore depend on execution across the three project locations. Details on delivery schedules, project commissioning and the developer’s identity would help establish how quickly the supply agreement translates into operational solar capacity.
